Deadly Robbery Shatters Calm at Fiapre Zongo, One Dead, Three Wounded

A quiet Wednesday evening in Fiapre Zongo, Sunyani, turned into a scene of horror after a suspected armed robbery attack left one person dead and three others nursing gunshot wounds.
The chaos unfolded between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m., sending residents scrambling for safety and drawing an urgent police response to the Bono Region community.
At the center of the attack was a mobile money vendor, who was shot in the shoulder but survived and is now recovering at a nearby health facility. A neighbor living just a few houses away wasn’t as fortunate.
Drawn outside by the sound of gunfire, he apparently ran straight into the attackers and was shot in the head. He died shortly after from his injuries. His identity is yet to be made public.
Two others caught up in the attack are also being treated for gunshot wounds, though the extent of their injuries is still unclear.
The night didn’t end well for at least one of the attackers, either. As he tried to flee through an uncompleted building, he was impaled on an iron rod, according to eyewitnesses.
Officers from the Sunyani West Police Command picked him up at the scene and rushed him to hospital, where he remains under police guard.
Investigators have since combed the area for clues as they work to piece together exactly what happened — and to track down the other suspects believed to still be on the run.
Police are urging anyone with useful information to come forward.
The attack has left the community on edge, reviving long-standing worries about the safety of mobile money operators and fueling fresh calls for beefed-up security patrols across the municipality.
