Bosomtwe District Director of Education Augustina Konadu-Yiadom has advised young girls, especially teenagers, not to allow their peers to influence them to indulge in premarital sex, since it could curtail their education and destroy their future.

She further advised them to concentrate on their education and vocational training so that they would become economically independent after their education.

Madam Konadu-Yiadom gave the advice at the Jachie Pramso Senior High School (JAPASS) in the Bosomtwe District in the Ashanti Region during a health screening exercise to mark this year’s HIV/AIDS Day in the district.

The event, organised by the Bosomtwe District Assembly, brought together students and other youth groups who went on a health walk from Kuntanase through Abrankese, Pramso and ended at JAPASS.

Screening

The participants, who numbered about 500, were screened for eye problems, blood pressure, and malaria and also counselled and taken through HIV tests.

The theme for the day was “90, 90, 90, providing a comprehensive integrated service for all towards an HIV-free generation”.

Social media

The district director counselled the youth not to allow the use of the social media to influence them negatively but make effective use of their positive impact to enhance their education and social life.

The Bosomtwe District Public Health Nurse, Ms Christiana Konto, spent some time to educate the gathering on the need to adopt a healthy life to make them live healthy and work well.

She advised them not to allow stigmatisation to prevent them from going for HIV screening, since it could be dangerous.

Ms Konto appealed to the general public to be mindful of what they ate, adding that it was high time people stopped taking junk food since it caused a lot of health hazards to the body.

The HIV/AIDS Focal Person for the Bosomtwe District, Mr Nathaniel Cheremeh, lauded the youth for their massive response to the programme and pledged the assembly’s unflinching support towards providing the needed support for the development of the people at all times.
