Traders in the Dormaa Municipality of the Bono Region have appealed to John Dramani Mahama to investigate the destruction of thousands of crates of eggs worth more than GH¢10 million that were exported to Burkina Faso.

The appeal was made by Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, during the President’s visit to Dormaa-Ahenkro as part of his two-day “Reset Ghana Tour” of the Bono Region.

President Mahama, accompanied by ministers, Members of Parliament, and officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was in the area to cut the sod for the construction of a model 24-hour market at the Dormaa Tuesday Market.

Speaking on behalf of the affected traders, the Paramount Chief explained that the eggs were transported through Paga in the Upper East Region en route to Burkina Faso, where they were allegedly seized and destroyed by authorities for reasons that remain unclear.

He noted that the incident has dealt a significant blow to the local poultry industry, which serves as a major source of livelihood for residents of Dormaa-Ahenkro.

“Dormaa-Ahenkro is a hub for poultry business. The sector is central to the socio-economic well-being of my people, and we depend heavily on it,” he said.
