Ebony Reigns makes history as the first female Artiste of the Year

The late Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng, otherwise known as Ebony Reigns, has been crown Artist of the Year at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), making history as the first female to achieve that feat.
Ebiny Reigns, named Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, won three awards out of six nominations, capping a hugely successful year.
She beat competition from Joe Mettle, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie and Stonebwoy to clinch the ultimate in the 19 edition of the awards,
The dancehall songstress had her song titled "sponsor" winning the Afro Pop Song the year while her ‘Bonified’ album won Album of the Year
Her manger Bullet won the song writer of the year with "maame hwe" song.
Information gathered by ghanaguardian.com indicates the "90s bad girl who lost her life earlier this year at 20, had promised her fans she was going to win the highly prized award in Ghana's music industry.
She was tipped by many, including EL, to win the awards, as her performance in the year under review saw her getting six nominations.
The Artiste of the Year is the biggest award in the VGMA.
The award is “adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the Artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity”.
The Artiste(s) must have released a hit single/album during the year under review.
Ebony was a national sensation in the year under review and topped it all up with her debut album, the Bonified album making her a qualified candidate for the award.
The dancehall artiste died in a gruesome road accident in Febrauary on the Sunyani-Kumasi road.
