An Electoral Commission (EC) staff member, Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to remove the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, and her two deputies, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey, citing alleged misconduct that he says threatens the credibility of Ghana’s electoral system.

In a statement on Monday, November 24, Adumadzie said the petition was submitted under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which sets out the process for removing heads of independent constitutional bodies.

While he declined to disclose full details as required by law, Adumadzie revealed that the petition cites 12 counts of alleged misbehaviour, including cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence. He claimed the conduct of the three senior officials has undermined public confidence in the EC and posed risks to the integrity and independence of Ghana’s electoral process.

Adumadzie said his actions are motivated by a desire to safeguard the Constitution and strengthen accountable governance, stressing the importance of protecting the dignity of the Electoral Commission for a credible democratic system.

He urged President Mahama to fulfil his constitutional duty by referring the petition to the Chief Justice to determine whether a prima facie case exists, in line with the procedures outlined in Article 146.
