ECG boss apologises for power outages, promises swift action to improve supply
20th April 2026
The Acting Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Kwame Kpekpena, has apologised to Ghanaians over the recent spate of intermittent power supply affecting homes and businesses.
The apology follows widespread complaints about unstable electricity in parts of the country, which has disrupted daily activities and, in some instances, caused damage to property.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, April 20, 2026, Ing. Kpekpena assured the public that the company is taking steps to address ongoing reliability challenges within the power distribution system.
He acknowledged the inconvenience caused by prolonged outages and stressed that resolving the issue has become ECG’s top operational priority.
The Acting Managing Director also admitted lapses in the company’s communication and response times, describing them as unacceptable. He indicated that measures have been introduced to improve operational efficiency, enhance response times, and strengthen engagement with customers.
Ing. Kpekpena further stated that ECG is committing the necessary resources to execute its recovery plans within set timelines, adding that the public will be regularly updated on progress.
He explained that some of the current challenges are the result of years of underinvestment, which have contributed to recurring outages and low voltage in certain areas.
Despite these challenges, he emphasised that ECG has a clear roadmap and is mobilising all available resources to improve electricity supply nationwide.
He added that the company remains committed to transparency and welcomes the media’s role in holding it accountable as efforts continue to restore stable and reliable power.
