The youth and elders of Funsi in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region, have protested against the transfer of the Assistant Headmaster of the Funsi Senior High School by the District Education Service.

Mr Jotie Moses has been transferred to the Jirapa District Education Office with immediate effect and to the people it would affect the smooth running of the School.

At a press conference at Funsi, Mr Dundusi Sumaila, a Youth Leader and an Assembly Member said even though the transfer was legitimate teachers from the Region or other districts had always refused posting to the school.

Besides, the transfer was untimely as the first term of the academic year was almost ended.

Mr Sumaila said Mr Jotie had worked diligently to improve academic performance of the School, and so his absence would reverse his achievement as well as discipline.

'In fact Mr Jotie can best be described as the livewire of Funsi Senior High School and his transfer from the school will cause shortcomings for both teachers and students.

'Indeed the entire people of the Wa East District will be affected taking into consideration embryonic state of the School, which needed competent and dedicated teachers to help uplift its image', he said.

Mr Sumaila said Mr Jotie had played a pioneering role in the opening of the Funsi Senior High School and his hard work had earned him praises from students and staff.

The Youth Leader therefore pleaded with the authorities to reconsider the decision to transfer Mr Jotie.

Some students, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency after the press conference, acknowledged that Mr Jotie helped to lift education in the district by working very hard at the School to improve high performance at the Basic Education Certificate Examinations, recording 100 per cent every year.

According to the students the Assistant Head Master was the brain behind the enrolment of a number of children into the School and that his transfer could cause bleak moments for them.
