On October 21, the Regulatory Authority of Electronic and Postal Communications (ARKEP) announced its authorization for Starlink to provide internet services, which are expected to be fully operational by December. Starlink’s services can be accessed by anyone in Kosovo through a simple online order on the company’s website. Once ordered, Starlink delivers a small, portable receiving device that connects directly to its satellite network in space. The pricing model for Starlink services in Kosovo will be revealed closer to the December launch, but costs will vary based on local purchasing power. In Albania, where Starlink launched in April 2024, the initial equipment costs around €500, with a monthly subscription starting at approximately €65. Internet speeds will range from 120 to 250 megabits per second (Mbps), depending on the chosen plan.
While current operators in Kosovo offer internet speeds up to 500 Mbps for households and up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) for businesses, Starlink is not aiming to compete directly on speed.
