The Minister of Energy, Dr. John Jinapor, has inaugurated the newly reconstituted Board of the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund, charging members to remain committed to the core mandate of supporting resettled communities.

At the swearing-in ceremony held on February 12, 2026, Dr. Jinapor emphasised the need for the Board to prioritise programmes that directly enhance the welfare of communities affected by Volta River Authority (VRA) projects. He highlighted key areas such as healthcare, education, and sanitation as critical to improving living standards.

“The Trust exists to serve the very communities affected by VRA projects. I encourage the Board to ensure that its programmes and resources address the pressing needs of these communities,” he stated.

The newly constituted Board comprises Halid Abdul Rauf (Chairman), Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, Dominic Napare, Joycelyn Tetteh, and Samuel Fletcher.

Dr. Jinapor expressed confidence in the Board’s ability to uphold the Trust’s mandate and deliver meaningful and measurable outcomes for beneficiary communities.

The VRA Resettlement Trust Fund was established to enhance the quality of life in the 52 resettlement communities created during the construction of the Akosombo Dam. These communities are located across six regions and 20 districts in Ghana.

The Fund undertakes various socio-economic interventions, including the provision of education and health facilities, sanitation infrastructure, potable water, and livelihood and economic empowerment programmes aimed at addressing the developmental needs of the affected communities.
