Scores of residents of Aboabo in the New Juaben municipality of the Eastern Region have been rendered homeless due to a landslide and floods that have destroyed their abode.

This was confirmed by the Eastern Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Ransford Owusu Boakye, who told ClassFMonline.com on Monday October 10 that victims had been relocated.

He explained that four households holding about 24 affected persons had to be moved to a temporary location due to the destruction caused by the landslide.

”Those affected have been relocated to nearby houses and we have provided them with some mattresses, food items, and basic necessities to cater for them,” he explained.

The boulders from nearby mountains destroyed farms and pulverised homes.

Fifteen homes were also affected by a heavy downpour on Sunday October 9 that destroyed property running into several thousands of cedis.

He explained that NADMO was still assessing the situation concerning the floods and the number of people affected cannot be readily estimated.

Other areas affected by the heavy downpour include Nyamekrom, Asokore, Abrewa Nkwanta, Zongo, Nsukwaw, and Effiduase.

It would be recollected that two people died as several properties got destroyed in the regional capital, Koforidua, due to heavy rains in September this year

That flood swept away 150 houses and 2,650 individuals were affected.
