Retired Referee Eric Owusu Mensah says the current GFA must bear responsibility for some poor officiating in the Ghana Football.

He says the Kurt Okraku administration has contributed largely to the failures of referees to exhibit competence on the field of play.

In an interview with Kumasi based Otec FM, Mr Mensah, popularly known as referee Kala, bemoaned the manner at which the  Referee Association of Ghana (RAG) has been neglected.

“People should blame the GFA for the poor standards of officiating because of how the FA has been treating referees in terms of means of paying their allowances, he said.

“The Referees Association of Ghana has been neglected by this FA.”

The Ghana Premier League and Division One League have in recent times seen the suspension of some referees over poor officiating.

The RAG only exists as a welfare body following the establishment of the Referee Department by the FA in June last year.

The Referee Department has retired Referee Alex Kortey has its manager but Mr Mensah believes the poor officiating can better be mitigated if the GFA can take a second  look at its dealing with the RAG.

“The referees are not performing because GFA has broken the front of the association (RAG), ” he said.

“The GFA should start dealing with RAG if they want the referees to perform well.

The FA released a fresh list suspended officials on Monday With eight coming from Division League only.

They include Centre Referees, Assistants and Match Commissioners.

The FA has also suspended Refree Gabriel O. Arhin and his Assistant Peter Dawsa for poor show in a premier League match that saw Hearts of Oak losing to Obuasi Ashanti Gold by a dubious penalty call.
