The former chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Afari Gyan, on Friday was adjudged  the “Best District Fish Farmer” at this year’s National Farmers Awards.

Dr Afari Gyan who retired as chairman of the EC on June 17, 2015 won the award because of his commitment and love for agriculture particularly fish farming.

The former Political Science Lecterer , In 2015,  said in a media interview that he intends focusing on his farm which he has maintained for quite some time now.
“I have always said that I will be going into farming. I have had a farm for the past 17 years and I am going to pay attention to it. I have fish and Noni in my farm; those are the only things I grow now,” he told Starr FM.
Dr Afari-Gyan chaired the conduction of presidential and parliamentary elections in 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 and was part of the commission that conducted the 1992 elections, as a deputy commissioner.

Robert Crentsil, a 42-year old emerged as the national best farmer from Ejumako-Enyan-Essiam in the Central region.

Mr Crentsil who emerged as the overall best farmer was praised for engaging in various agricultural productions including 120acres of cocoa, 80acres of rubber, 60acres of plantain, 60acres of cowpea, 30acres of cassava, 15acres of citrus, 7acres of oil palm, 6acres of coconut.

The 32nd National Farmers’ Day celebration was held at Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region under the theme: ‘Agriculture: A Business Response to Economic Growth.’
