GC Festival booing: You have two years to salvage this 'referendum' – Manasseh to Akufo-Addo
25th September 2022
Journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has advised President Akufo-Addo to use the next two years of his presidency to resolve the nation's economic woes in order to restore his former glory.
The renowned investigative journalist stated this on his Twitter page in response to the President being jeered at this year's Global Citizen Festival, which took place in Accra on Saturday night.
When Nana Akufo-Addo took the stage to deliver his speech, a segment of the audience began clapping and screaming 'away, away' in an attempt to make him feel uneasy.
"The whole world is in Ghana today," the President could be heard declaring amidst the noise. This video has been widely circulated on social media platforms.
However, in a Twitter commentary, Manasseh noted that, while the government can pay traditional elders and sycophants to sing accolades for the President, what he [Akufo-Addo] saw at the 2022 Global Citizen Festival was a true depiction of what the people stand for.
Manasseh Azure described Saturday night's events at the Black Stars Square as a "referendum" on Nana Akufo-Addo's rule, adding that the President has two years to regain his dignity.
"Mr President , for their selfish goals, chiefs, paid praise singers and sycophants will continue to sing insincere praises of you. But what you heard at the #globalcitizensfestival is the truest voice of the people, a referendum on your regime. You have two years to salvage it," the tweet admonished.
