GES rejects Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum claims linking management to 2025 WASSCE performance

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly rejected claims by former Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum, that actions taken by management contributed to the performance of candidates in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In a statement issued on December 1, 2025, and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the GES said it was “setting the record straight” in response to what it described as misleading assertions circulating after the release of the results.
The Service dismissed Dr. Adutwum’s suggestion that teachers’ allowances were deliberately cancelled, describing the allegation as false.
“The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department has already provided public clarification on the reasons for the non-payment of November allowances for teachers,” the statement said. It further urged the public to disregard the former minister’s comments, describing them as an attempt to deflect attention from challenges in the management of the examination process under his tenure.
GES maintained that the 2025 WASSCE results present an accurate picture of candidates’ academic abilities.
“Management of GES views the 2025 WASSCE results as a true reflection of the academic performance of the candidates. The outcome is a credible representation of students’ abilities,” the statement emphasised.
The Service explained that the examinations were conducted under strict supervision, with enhanced monitoring, adherence to established protocols, and increased invigilation. These measures, it said, led to the arrest of some students and staff implicated in examination malpractice.
“The results clearly demonstrate our renewed efforts to restore integrity to the examination process,” the statement added.
