Northwestern’s Global Engagement Studies Institute expanded their list of study abroad countries from six to eight, the Institute announced Thursday.

An email from the Institute announced that students now have the options of traveling to Ghana and Guatemala.

The Ghana program is available to students in the summer and is partnered with Peace Humanity International, a Ghana-based non-governmental organization, and Amizade, a nonprofit dedicated to volunteer and study abroad opportunities. It provides the opportunity to live in Jukwa –– a farming town –– where students can choose to work on a river restoration project or explore topics such as literacy and agriculture.

Students traveling to Guatemala will go in the fall to study social entrepreneurship and community consulting. The program is partnered with Social Entrepreneur Corps, an organization that sponsors immersion programs in Latin America.

Existing locations include Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, India, Kenya, Nicaragua and Uganda.

The next GESI information session will be Tuesday, and applications for 2017 are scheduled to open in November.
