GFA Comms. Dir. expresses concern over Black Stars' winless AFCON qualifying run

Henry Asante Twum, Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has voiced his concerns regarding the Black Stars' winless run in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, describing it as an unusual and troubling situation.

The Black Stars currently find themselves third in Group F, having collected just two points out of a possible 12 from four matches. Reflecting on the team's difficult start, Asante Twum highlighted the anomaly of such a performance for Ghana's national team.

"It is not normal for the Black Stars to play four matches without a win," he said in an interview with Asempa FM.

"It is very worrying as a country and for the playing body, but I know the technical team and the players are determined to do their best in the last two games."

Ghana began their campaign with a narrow 1-0 loss to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium and followed it up with a 1-1 draw against Niger in Berkane.

The team struggled further in their doubleheader against Sudan, drawing 0-0 at home in Accra and suffering a 2-0 defeat in the return fixture in Libya.

The Black Stars now face a crucial test, needing victories in their final two matches to stand a chance of qualifying.

They will meet Angola at the Estádio 11 de Novembro on November 15 before hosting Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium for their concluding match.

Ghana's hopes also rest on Sudan dropping points in their remaining games against Niger and Angola.

The team is set to complete their final training session later today before departing for Luanda on Wednesday.
