As part of its landmark insurance policy for referees across the Premier League, Division One League, and Women’s Premier League, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has introduced an unprecedented set of complimentary family-related benefits in partnership with Enterprise Life.

The initiative goes beyond traditional coverage—such as life insurance, medical support, critical illness, and disability protection—to provide direct assistance to referees during moments of personal loss.

Complimentary Family Support Packages

Enterprise Life will fully fund three distinct interventions at no cost to referees:

  • Spousal Loss: Financial assistance for five referees annually in the event of a spouse’s passing.

  • Child Loss: Relief support for five referees each year who suffer the loss of a child.

  • Parental Loss: Financial aid for referees who lose a parent.

These compassionate measures are designed to cushion referees during periods of emotional and financial strain, reflecting a holistic approach to welfare.

Elevating Referee Welfare

The family-support packages build on the wider insurance policy, which already includes:

  • Group life cover

  • Critical illness protection

  • Permanent disability compensation

  • Workmen’s compensation

  • Medical expenses

Together, they represent a new benchmark in referee welfare, ensuring that officials are supported not only in their professional duties but also in their family lives.

Stakeholder Praise

Stakeholders have hailed the initiative as a humane and forward-thinking intervention, acknowledging that referees’ responsibilities extend beyond the pitch and into family life, where unexpected challenges can take a heavy toll.

This development underscores the GFA’s determination to elevate referee welfare to an entirely new level, combining professional protection with compassionate family support.
