Ghana coach Otto Addo has taken responsibility for the Black Stars' lackluster first-half performance against the Central African Republic (CAR) during their 2026 World Cup qualifier at the Baba Yara Stadium on Monday night.

Despite Jordan Ayew's early goal giving Ghana the lead, the team found themselves trailing 2-1 at halftime after conceding two goals to Louis Mafouta.

The Black Stars eventually rallied to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory.

In the post-match press conference, Addo acknowledged the team's first-half difficulties, particularly with ball control and offensive execution.

"We had problems in the first half controlling the ball and finding solutions upfront. I take the blame," Addo admitted.

He explained that his tactical approach might have been overly ambitious given the limited preparation time. "Maybe I wanted us to do too much, especially given the few days of training we had. I adjusted in the second half, and we deserved to win," he added.

With this victory, Ghana now leads Group I with nine points from four games, holding a three-point advantage over Madagascar and Comoros, who each have a game in hand.

Addo's focus will be on maintaining this momentum and refining the team's performance as they continue their quest for a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
