The Government of Ghana has condemned what it calls Israel’s “unprovoked” attack on the sovereign State of Qatar, which left multiple casualties, fatalities, and extensive damage.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, September 10, Ghana described the airstrikes as a violation of international law and an affront to Qatar’s sovereignty.

“The Government of the Republic of Ghana condemns the attack in view of the fact that the airstrikes constitute a clear violation of international law and an affront to the sovereignty of the State of Qatar. This attack undermines the ongoing pursuit of peace between the States of Palestine and Israel,” the statement read.

President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana also expressed solidarity with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, commending Qatar’s mediation efforts in the Israel–Palestine conflict.

Ghana further urged that the incident should not derail ongoing peace negotiations.

Meanwhile, CNN reported that the Israeli strike targeted Hamas leadership in Doha, marking an unprecedented escalation. According to Hamas, five of its members were killed, while the negotiating delegation survived. A Qatari security officer also lost his life.

The attack has raised fears of heightened regional instability and could jeopardise hostage negotiations and wider diplomatic efforts in the Middle East.
