Ghana excels at WAFU B African Schools football Championship 

Ghanaian talents Cyril Acquah Hagan and Christiana Ashiaku emerged as standout performers at the WAFU B African Schools Football Championship, finishing as top scorers in the boys’ and girls’ divisions, respectively.

Hagan netted three goals in four matches to claim the Golden Boot in the boys’ category, while Ashiaku impressed with four goals in four matches to dominate the girls’ competition.

The championship, which concluded in Niamey, Niger, on November 23, 2024, saw fierce competition, especially in the girls' U15 division, where teams from Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, and Burkina Faso contested for supremacy.

However, Ghana's girls rose above the rest, showcasing remarkable skill and determination to secure the championship title.

In the boys' division, Ghana delivered a strong performance to claim bronze with a narrow 1-0 victory over Burkina Faso in the third-place playoff.

The tournament offered a dynamic stage for young players to display their talents, underscoring the vast potential within African schools football and the promise of a bright future for the continent's sporting landscape.

With six nations competing across both divisions, Ghana’s success was a testament to its commitment to grassroots football development.

The girls’ team’s victory also earned Ghana a place at the CAF African Schools Football Championship Finals in 2025, a premier event designed to nurture successive generations of African football stars.

This innovative competition, now in its third season, has already reached over 800,000 young athletes across Africa.

It aligns with CAF’s vision of creating a solid foundation for youth development, setting the stage for the next wave of football talent on the global stage.
