On October, 2024, Ghana Healthcare Volunteers of Georgia Inc. (GHVOG), USA, embarked on its fourth medical mission trip to Atiwa Community Hospital in Akyem Moseaso, Eastern Region, Ghana.

Led by the President, Dr. Nicholas Fosu, the team of dedicated medical professionals provided free surgeries and consultations to over 260 patients in need, all at no cost to the patients.

Upon arrival, the team was warmly welcomed by Nananom, local leaders, and hospital staff. Dr. Fosu emphasized GHVOG's commitment to giving back to underserved communities, citing teamwork, determination, and focus as key drivers of their success.

Over five days, from October 7th to 11th, the team performed 42 surgeries, including critical gynecological procedures, cyst and lipoma removals, and general surgeries. Patients received treatments and surgeries for fibroids, hysterectomies, endometriosis, hernia repairs, and hydroceles. Remarkably, all services were provided at no cost to the patients.

Dr. Thelma Asare, an obstetrician-gynecologist, shared her motivation for participating: "I want to give back to my community because here was where I was born and it feels good to return to my land of birth. She shared that regular checkups and early detection are crucial to treatment and recovery." Surgical technician Mrs. Crystal Oladele praised the local team's resourcefulness and expressed her commitment to returning for future missions.

Principal surgeon, Dr. Emile K. Tano, attributed the outreach's success to teamwork and adaptability. Despite challenges, including power outages during procedures, the team remained focused on changing patients' lives.

GHVOG's mission aligns with the government's efforts to improve district and rural health outcomes. This trip demonstrated the organization's unwavering commitment to promoting health through education and community outreach programs.

As GHVOG looks forward to its next trip, the impact of this mission will endure. Patients' lives have been transformed, and a community has been inspired. Dr. Fosu extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Nananom for their warm welcome, the hospital staff, and the GHVOG team for their dedication and support.

The Ghana Healthcare Volunteers of Georgia's selfless work serves as a testament to the power of volunteerism and community spirit. Their story will continue to inspire and motivate others to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
