Ghana Marks One Year Since Fatal Military Helicopter Crash With National Memorial Service
The Government of Ghana has held a National Inter-Faith Memorial Service to commemorate the eight people who lost their lives in the tragic military helicopter crash of August 6, 2025, exactly one year after the devastating incident.
The remembrance ceremony took place on Thursday, August 6, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), bringing together government officials, religious leaders, traditional authorities, members of the Ghana Armed Forces, families of the deceased and other dignitaries.
The service was held to honour the lives, service and sacrifices of the eight victims, who died while undertaking official national assignments.
The victims were killed when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region while travelling from Accra to the Ashanti Region.
Among those who lost their lives were Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong, and former NDC parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye.
The crash also claimed the lives of three members of the helicopter crew: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
During the inter-faith service, Christian and Muslim leaders offered prayers for the departed, comforted the bereaved families and urged Ghanaians to continue honouring the legacy of the victims through unity, patriotism and dedicated service to the nation.
The memorial served as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by the eight individuals, whose contributions to Ghana continue to be remembered one year after the national tragedy.
