Ghana President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says he wants to improve the lot of ordinary people by the time his term comes to an end.

The 72-year-old, who defeated the incumbent John Mahama in Wednesday's general elections is vowing that he will create the enabling environment for the youth to get jobs as well as increase incomes for workers.

The former foreign minister says local production levels will rise and would seek to cut out or minimise the country's dependence on foreign imports.

"That the economy is working better for them, people getting jobs, income levels are rising in Ghana, we are producing more and more things rather than depending on others to produce them for us.

Expansion and growth of the economy will be the main concern I will have.

Secondly also, that Ghana will be run in a manner where the interest of the ordinary people are the focus of the governance of our country and our institutions, the way which we go about solving the problems of state and politicsis about satisfying the needs and aspirations of ordinary people" he said

The rate of Ghana's industrial production is currently at the rate of 7.8% with the industries in Ghana accounting for about 25.3% of total Gross Domestic Products (GDP).

Some of  Ghana's most important manufacturing industries include electronics manufacturing, car manufacturing, electric car manufacturing, aluminum smelting, food processing, and  cement.

Other industries include the production of food and beverages, textiles, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, and the processing of metals and wood products.

A relatively small glass-making industry has also developed due to the high-quality sand available from the Tarkwa mining area. Most products are for local consumption and exportation.
