Ghana sweat over Andre Ayew’s fitness ahead of Cameroon showdown
27th June 2019
Ghana face an anxious wait over the fitness of Andre Ayew ahead of their crucial Group F clash against Cameroon in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
The 29 year old is yet to train with the group since picking up a knock during their 2-2 draw with Benin at the Ismailia Stadium on Tuesday.
A statement released by the Ghana FA today has confirmed the medical team is monitoring his situation before deciding on his involvement with the Black Stars desperate as a diversity of online slots have made the Cameroonian favourites for the match
“The medical team are monitoring Dede’s condition and will advise the technical team regarding his availability depending on how he responds to treatment.”
Ghana will face the Indomitable Lions in the deadly clash on Saturday at 5pm at the Ismailia Stadium whilst Benin lock horns with Guinea Bissau in the other group game later at the same venue.
Meanwhile, Jean-Alain Boumsong, a member of Cameroon's technical bench, has said the Indomitable Lions are determined to beat Ghana in their second group game at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Egypt as they look to keep their title defence on course.
Clarence Seedorf's outfit, who dispatched Guinea-Bissau in their opening group match, are set to take on the Black Stars at the Ismailia Stadium on Saturday.
Ghana need to recover from a disappointing 2-2 stalemate with Benin on Tuesday.
"We are optimistic because we came to defend our title," Cameroon-born former France international Boumsong told Goal.
"We saw the Ghana versus Benin game which was good. They are our next opponents and they are superior to Guinea Bissau.
"As cup holders, we have to put in lots of seriousness to be able win against them, especially Ghana."
Saturday's clash will be the second successive meeting between Ghana and Cameroon at Afcon following a semi-final showdown two years ago. At Gabon 2017, the Lions walked away with a 2-0 victory en route to winning the title.
"Ghana played very well against Benin," Boumsong added.
