Communications Minister, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful has said Ghana will present a team for the African Regional Girls in ICT to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2020.

The Girls in ICT event under the Ministry of Communications cumulatively, has trained over 8000 young girls from the basic level of education in basic ICT knowledge since its adoption.

100 girls who excelled out of the 980 girls trained in the Central region at the second edition of the 2019 event were awarded with Laptops, modems with a year internet subscription and cash prizes.

Speaking at the Girls in ICT event on Tuesday, the representative of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Madam Ida Jallow challenged Ghana to sell its success stories on the initiative to the African Sub region.

Accepting the challenge, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful said the country will put together a team made of winners of the Girls in ICT event from the various regions and present them at Addis Ababa.

“Madam IDA Jallow, we take up the challenge and will present a team for the African regional GIICT in Addis Ababa in April next year and going forward. The winners of all the regional competitions will be prepared for it and the best will go to Addis next year” she said.
