Ghanaian Referee Daniel Laryea selected for elite CAF Referees course in Cairo
1st March 2026
Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea has been selected among Africa’s top match officials to attend the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Interclub Quarter-Finals Preparation Course in Cairo.
The five-day programme, scheduled to take place in Egypt from 4–8 March 2026, forms part of CAF’s build-up to the decisive stages of its interclub competitions. It brings together some of the continent’s most highly rated referees for technical training, fitness assessments and VAR simulations ahead of the quarter-finals.
Laryea, who has been on the FIFA list since 2014, will participate in the course in a dual capacity, training both as a FIFA centre referee and as a FIFA Video Assistant Referee (VAR). The selection underlines his standing within African football and his versatility in modern officiating.
Widely regarded as one of Africa’s most experienced referees, Laryea has officiated at major continental tournaments and high-profile international matches. His invitation to the Cairo course signals continued confidence in his abilities at the highest level of the game.
For Ghanaian football, his inclusion represents another moment of recognition on the continental stage, this time not from a player, but from one of the country’s most respected figures in black.
