Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea has been selected among Africa’s top match officials to attend the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Interclub Quarter-Finals Preparation Course in Cairo.

‎The five-day programme, scheduled to take place in Egypt from 4–8 March 2026, forms part of CAF’s build-up to the decisive stages of its interclub competitions. It brings together some of the continent’s most highly rated referees for technical training, fitness assessments and VAR simulations ahead of the quarter-finals.

‎Laryea, who has been on the FIFA list since 2014, will participate in the course in a dual capacity, training both as a FIFA centre referee and as a FIFA Video Assistant Referee (VAR). The selection underlines his standing within African football and his versatility in modern officiating.

‎Widely regarded as one of Africa’s most experienced referees, Laryea has officiated at major continental tournaments and high-profile international matches. His invitation to the Cairo course signals continued confidence in his abilities at the highest level of the game.

‎For Ghanaian football, his inclusion represents another moment of recognition on the continental stage, this time not from a player, but from one of the country’s most respected figures in black.
