The Black Meteors of Ghana failed to beat the Amagluglu of South Africa in the Afcon U-23 tournament in Egypt and missing out on the chance to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.

In a match which had the sole automatic ticket up for grabs, the South Africans took the lead in the first half.

A long ball was collected by Singh and went past Habib Mohammed before hitting a firce shot which deflected off the defender to fool goalkeeper Kwame Baah for the opener.

The South Africans had chances to have added to the scores but some last ditch defending denied them the second.

Three minutes into the second half the impressive Evans Mensah hit a rocket from about 20 yards with his sweet left foot to give Ghana the equalizer.

The South Africans went ahead in the 62nd minute through Kamohelo Mahlatsi after some sloppy defending from the dozing Ghanaian defence who have been dozing throughout the tournament.

Evans Mensah was again involved in getting the equalizer as he dribbled into the South African penalty box and cut back for Samuel Obeng to swivel and score in the 85th minute to grab the equalizer.

After extra time there was nothing to separate both sides as the game headed into the dreaded penalty kicks for Ghana and we duly lost 6-5 on penalties.

After goalkeeper Kwame Baah's save Edward Sarpong had just one task to score to grab the elusive Olympic ticket for Ghana but as if his dreads had blinded him he skied the ball into the stands but the South Africans scored and they earn the sole ticket to Tokyo next year.
