Ghana's President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo has been urged to pardon suspended Sulley Muntari to pave way for his return into the Black Stars ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Muntari, who is clubless, has been frozen out out of the team for the past two years.

The former AC and Inter Milan midfielder was slapped with an indefinite suspension after he physically attacked then Black Stars management committee member Moses Armah.

The 30-year-old subsequently apologised for his 'insane' behaviour after two years of persuasion.

But a Government White Paper strongly stated without equivocation that Muntari should not be recalled into the team to maintain discipline.

But several local fans are urging the President-elect to pardon the former Portsmouth and Sunderland enforcer to pave way for his return into the team ahead of the crucial Nations Cup next year.

The President of the popular Die Hard Sports Supporters Union, Abraham Nkansah, is leading the crusade to get Muntari restored into the team.

'Very soon, he may retire and this is the best time to use him, because he has the experience as well as thirst for honours." he said

The Union's secretary Mary Osei Gyambrah also added her voice to the clarion call, claiming he will be a valuable asset to coch Avram Grant.

'We have to feature our best players if we want to win AFCON 2017, and Sulley Muntari is one of Ghana's finest and best players. I want to apologise on his behalf if he has offended anyone that has detached him from the Black Stars." concluded.

Muntari must contest the decision of the White Paper in court to pave way for his return to the team.

But it's unclear if a Presidential pardon will do the trick.
