After years of broadcasting experience, popular broadcast journalist, Gifty Anti, is set to move into the realm of political activism from where she is likely to launch a career in politics as a member of parliament.

She said though she is “very interested in politics”, it has never been her calling but she is optimistic the situation might change, saying ” I believe I may have to start my political activism from now”.

Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise Thursday, the gender advocate said although she has not been seen in active politics, she has over the years been supporting women across the political divide in the country.

“I have a bigger constituency than going to be a parliamentarian where I will be restricted to a political party but maybe, I may consider going independent sometime,” Ms. Anti told host of the show, Winston Amoah.

In April 2015, poster of her allegedly contesting the primary of the New Patriotic Party in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam surfaced in Tema but she came out to deny any interest in the parliamentary seat in the area. “It is false.

I haven’t declared any intention of contesting and I haven’t made any move to contest any primaries… I am just concentrating on what I am doing,” she said at the time. But she told 3FM Thursday that inasmuch as politics is not her calling, she may reconsider her decision and contest as an independent candidate in the future.

Female President in Ghana?

On whether Ghana is ready for a female president, Ms. Anti was positive about that saying “I think we are ready though it may take some time for it to come”.

She said Ghana has young women who are really dynamic and very hardworking, noting “these women seem to understand the way the game is being played so gradually I think they will win our love”. She was hopeful that a lot more women will be elected in the coming elections to add up to those who are already in parliament.
