Sports enthusiast Yofi Grant rewarded triumphant athletes at the GNPC Ghana's Fastest Human race held in Accra on Saturday for their wonderful show.

The event which took place at the University of Ghana Stadium saw athletes competing for honours in several categories spanning from U10 to U18.

Mr. Yofi Grant who was overly impressed with the performances of the athletes gave each winner in the U10 category for boys and girls GHC450.00 each.

Winners in the U15 and U18 categories were given GHC1500.00 each for emerging winners in their event.

Mr. Grant who loves sports particularly athletics and is determined to support the sport claims he handed the cash prizes to the athletes to serve as a motivational tool for the winners and other competitors.

"This initiative of finding Ghana's Fastest is well grounded and must be supported.

"Ghana in the past had a great tradition of great athletes who made it to the world statement but we are not seeing as much these days and that's because we are not supporting athletics the same way that it was many years ago when we were in the secondary school.

"We had great athletes from the schools but we're not seeing that of late and this initiative of finding Ghana's Fastest seems to be fixing that and I think it must be supported," he told Ghanaguardian.com

He added by saying that he dashed out the cash to the athletes because he had saved for it and wanted to use that as a opportunity to motivate the athletes.

"When Reks told me about this event, I saved for it but I didn't tell him. I wanted to also lend a helping hand in finding the next big talent in athletics for the country," he added.

The event was the Accra edition of the GNPC Ghana's Fastest Human following similar events in Tamale, Cape Coast and Kumasi.

The finals of the GNPC Ghana's Fastest Human will come off in Kumasi next month where all the champions in all the categories will compete at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
