MOVIE producer and director, Pascal Aka, has warned the media to be wary of giving attention to slay queens.

For the producer, who is known for films such as Double Cross and Souls of Strife, he fears for the survival for the movie industry in the face of the rise of slay queens.

Speaking as a panellist at a symposium organised by the Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF)which came off at the African Regent Hotel in Accra on Thursday, February 28, Pascal Aka said the media was feeding audiences with “non fa” content.

“Have we wondered why for more than a decade, the same old faces like Majid, Jackie, John Dumelo and Nadia are still gracing our screens?

"It’s because we are not giving much attention to true talents these days but concentrating on supposed actors who will rather show their sexiness than talent.

“But that is what the audience want now because it is what the media is feeding them with. Today, as a producer, you even fear to work on good material of proper intellect because you are already in doubt about its patronage since the patrons don’t appreciate quality again," he stated.

Continuing Pascal Aka said, “As a producer, I want my niece to be inspired to be an actress because of good talents and not because she is inspired to market her sexiness as actress.

"That shouldn’t be the way to go but unfortunately that is becoming the standard practice projected by the media."

Apart from Pascal Aka, the other panellists; Juliet Asante, founder of the BSIFF; Actress, Ama K. Abebrese as well as James Aboagye of Miracle Films, who is a founding member of Akan Film Association of Ghana in Kumasi made varied contributions on the way forward for the movie industry.

Hosted by William Asiedu, President of Arts Writers Association of Ghana (ATWAG), the symposium was themed: “Ghana as a Co-production hub” and provided a good platform for stakeholders in the film industry to address pertinent issues affecting the sector.
