The Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM) has extended its deepest condolences to the Government of Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), and the families of the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in a military helicopter crash.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Association expressed profound sorrow over the incident, describing it as a national tragedy.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident, and our hearts go out to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. We pray that the souls of the departed rest in peace and that the bereaved families find the strength to navigate this difficult time,” the statement read.
The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, near Brofoyedu in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. All eight people on board the military Z-9 helicopter — three crew members and five passengers — perished in the accident.

In response to the tragedy, President John Dramani Mahama has declared a three-day national mourning period, beginning Thursday, August 7, 2025, with flags ordered to fly at half-mast nationwide.
GNASSM affirmed its solidarity with the nation during this time of grief, stating:
“We stand with the Government of Ghana, the NDC, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the bereaved families in mourning this immense loss. May the memories of the departed officials and military personnel be cherished and honoured.”
