The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has joined forces with sister group National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) in declaring industrial action.

NAGRAT last week declared a nationwide strike in what they described as unfavourable conditions of service,unpaid allowances,delayed promotions and the use of the newly introduced human resource information systems acquired by the Public Service Commission among others.

According to GNAT the decision was arrived after what they perceive as unfavourable working conditions of service.

GNAT have declared an industrial strike in six out of the 16 regions in the country effective today Tuesday, September 10, 2019.

According to the association the inability of their employers GES to resolve various issues has resulted in their action.

The association announced 10 of the challenges forcing them to go on strike among them include the non renewal of their collective bargaining agreement,the GES-SIC group life insurance policy deductions,non payment and difficulty in placing staff on additional responsibility,traveling allowances,delay in salary adjustments among others.

The decision has been signed off by representatives of 6 GNAT unions namely; Northern,Upper West,Upper East,Volta,Greater Accra,Central regions.

Meanwhile NAGRAT who are yet to meet with officials of the Ghana Education Service will on Wednesday 11th September,2019 hold a meeting with the National Labour Commission
