Goldbod to drive economic transformation – CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod), Sammy Gyamfi, says the establishment of the Board is not only aimed at regulating the gold sector but is also a strategic initiative to help revive Ghana’s ailing economy.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Gyamfi explained that Goldbod, introduced as a flagship programme under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, is designed to ensure that the nation derives full value from its mineral wealth.

“Goldbod was part of our campaign commitment. It is more than just support for miners—it’s about transforming the gold industry and using it as a vehicle to restore our economy,” he said.

He noted that his early appointment as CEO reflects the urgency and importance the President attaches to the sector’s reform.

“So far, I’ve enjoyed overwhelming support from all stakeholders, including the President himself. This shows how committed we are to making this initiative work,” Mr. Gyamfi said.

He emphasized that despite Ghana’s vast mineral resources, the benefits have not been felt by the ordinary citizen. Goldbod, he said, is set to change that narrative.

“Ghana is richly endowed with gold and other minerals, but the lives of our people do not reflect this blessing. Goldbod seeks to bridge that gap and ensure the sector plays a meaningful role in our national development,” he concluded.
