The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced that the government will reveal how much revenue has been generated from the GH¢1 fuel levy and how the funds have been utilised by the end of March.

Richmond Rockson, the Ministry’s Head of Communications, said details on accruals from the Energy Sector Levy Act (ESLA) will be made public in line with transparency requirements under the law. He spoke to Citi Eyewitness News on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in response to questions about total collections since the levy was introduced.

“The Ministry of Finance will provide the figures. Let me add that the government has committed to full transparency regarding the use of the levy. By the end of this month, as stipulated by the Act, data on how much has been accrued and how it has been used will be made available,” Rockson said.

He assured Ghanaians that accountability remains a priority. “Be rest assured, this is not a conversation the government will avoid. In the energy sector, there are no shortcuts,” he added.

His remarks come amid calls by the Parliamentary Minority to scrap the GH¢1 levy on petroleum products, arguing that it has outlived its purpose and is placing an additional burden on consumers.
