Government has frozen increment in the salaries, emoluments of members of the Executive arm of government for the year.

This means that there will be no payment hikes in the salaries of the Executive including the President, his Vice and all government appointees.

It was made known by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during this year's May Day celebration on Saturday May 1.

According to the President, the freeze on salaries of the Executive is to take off the strain on the already depleted government purse due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Among other things the President also added that an unemployment Insurance scheme which was promised during the 2020 campaign will be set up this year.

“…In addition the first unemployment insurance scheme ceded by government is being championed by the social partnership council and it is to be established by year end.

The President also added that the government will make sure that all worker are vaccinated to protect them from the coronavirus pandemic.

“We also use this year to ensure that all workers are vaccinated to protect their lives and enhance their productivity. I have taken the decision to freeze salary increment for this year, 2021 for myself as president, the vice president, ministers, deputy ministers and all appointees of the executive.

“It is our modest contribution to reduce the damage to our public revenue and to help hasten our nation’s recovery from the ravages of the pandemic.”he added.
