The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture development, Sherry Ayittey, has promised government’s support for fishermen along the coast of Accra who suffered varying losses from a thunderstorm on Sunday.

The storm destroyed and displaced many of the fishermen’s canoes and fishing nets whilst some fishermen are feared to have drowned.

Some of the affected fishermen have since said it will take months for them to resume normal fishing activities.

“We will put our heads together to see how we can get them new ones to replace for them immediately because we are in the fishing season,” she added.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has also said it is assessing the extent of damage to offer some relief in the coming days.
