Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, Director of the Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA) at the Office of the President, has reiterated government’s commitment to promoting rural agribusiness as a vital driver of industrialization and employment creation.

His reaffirmation came during an official visit to Nuts for Growth, a fast-growing agro-processing company located in Ghana's Northern Region. The company specializes in the processing of shea and soya and is currently engaged with over 81,000 women and youth across its extensive value chains.

Nuts for Growth has established a strong presence in key areas including seedling production, quality assurance, warehousing, and the conversion of agricultural by-products into high-protein livestock feed. These efforts have significantly contributed to food security and the economic empowerment of local communities.

“This is exactly the kind of enterprise we must support,” Dr. Otokunor remarked during the visit. “They are creating jobs, enhancing local capacity, and adding real value to our agricultural produce.”

As part of the tour, Dr. Otokunor inspected the company’s 300-metric-ton processing facility, its quality control laboratory, and a nursery that produces thousands of seedlings each season. Discussions also centered around aligning government initiatives—particularly the DOBIDI Programme—to amplify impact at the community level.

Madam Dora Habosutei Torwiseh, CEO of Nuts for Growth, highlighted some of the challenges facing the enterprise. Chief among them were delays in accessing capital, inconsistent supply of raw materials, and the need for stronger policy support.

“We’ve built a solid foundation,” she said, “but we need targeted support to scale. Timely access to funding and raw materials would significantly enhance our operations.”

In response, Dr. Otokunor assured the company of the government’s readiness to act. “We’re not just here to observe—we’re here to intervene meaningfully,” he stated.
