Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has opened up about his troubled stint with Eleven Wonders, hinting at deeper structural problems within the club despite having severed ties.

His comments follow revelations from veteran coach J.E. Sarpong, who resigned after less than a month in charge, citing poor treatment of players. Sarpong disclosed that players were not adequately fed, often relied on public transport to attend training, and were owed months of unpaid salaries.

Lamptey’s Reflections

Speaking to Asempa FM, Lamptey distanced himself from the team’s poor start to the season, insisting the challenges were beyond his control:

“The challenges of Eleven Wonders were not down to me, and the players are aware of that. Whatever I know in the game, I did that to save the club. If I tell you what I did for the club, you would be surprised, and that is why I have decided to stay mute because the club should know better.”

He added that Sarpong’s revelations only scratched the surface:

“With whatever J.E. Sarpong has said, I have billions of them. It tells you there is something wrong with the club somewhere. I just hope that the wrongs will be corrected so that the players will be able to play well, because at the end of the day, it is Ghana football that will suffer.”

Lamptey also questioned the club’s leadership, pointing out that individuals in high public office were involved in its management:

“I just hope that things will change at the club because the handlers of the team, someone is a Member of Parliament, and someone else is also serving as a Member Council of State, so why should this be happening? If you cannot manage 30 players, then I am sorry. I am an illiterate, and I have over 60 players I am managing at my academy. So if an illiterate can do that, how much more people like you?”

Current Situation

  • Eleven Wonders remain bottom of the Ghana Premier League table with just three points from 11 matches.

  • They are the only side yet to record a win this season.

  • The club will host Dreams FC at the University of Ghana Stadium in Matchday 12, hoping to finally secure their first victory.
