Mr. Guru, has seen the shock of his life after he was asked to pay an amount of Four Ghana Cedis (GHS4) before taking a picture at the Adomi Bridge on the Volta River.
According to the Ghanaian comedian, he was told that the GHS4 admission fee is an order from Ghana’s President Akufo Addo. He expressed disappointment over the fees and compared the bridge to that of world’s longest sea bridge in China which he claims admits tourists for free. China, however, charges vehicles that use the bridge.
As expected of a Ghanaian, Mr. Guru couldn’t go without politics. Read his full post below:
Your excellency Mr President, this is the receipt given to me today 19th April 2019 at Adomi bridge as fee for pictures I want to take as a Ghanaian on the bridge Kwame Nkrumah built and which Mahama renovated. The people in charge told me that the order is from the President, that even if you want to take selfie it’s 2gh per person. Your excellency if indeed you authorized this God forsaken tax then am disappointed in you. How much do Ghanaians pay when they travel to Dubai, China, American, etc yet those countries are 100× developed. Even China’s world’s longest 30 miles sea bridge to Hong Kong is free, what is happening? What a shame!!!!
Located in Atimpoku in the Eastern Region of Ghana, the Adomi Bridge is a two-hinged steel arch bridge with a deck suspended by cables.
The bridge which took only a year to construct in 1956/1957 was closed in 2014 to traffic for repair works and reopened to traffic in December 2015.
