GWR: Dance-a-thon attempter gives up after 131 hours
19th July 2024
Fredrick Boakye’s ambitious journey to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest individual dancing marathon has come to an end after an impressive 131 hours.
His record time was just 37 hours short of his 168-hour goal.
The dance-a-thon, which began on July 11 at the Kwahu-Obomeng Social Center, was scheduled to run until July 18, 2024.
Despite his determination and effort, Fredrick cited exhaustion as the reason for ending the marathon prematurely.
Though he didn’t reach his intended target, Fredrick’s 131-hour performance surpasses the current record held by Srushti Sudhir, who danced for 127 hours in India.
Fredrick’s aim was to dance continuously to indigenous traditional music for an entire week to celebrate Ghana’s rich culture and showcase his passion for dance.
His attempt has been met with widespread admiration and support from well-wishers who trooped to the venue.
