The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Awutu Senya West Constituency in the Central Region, George Andah, says there is no need for him to apologize for his open challenge to Hanna Tetteh  to show her husband to her constituents.

The marketing mogul, who seemed unmoved by the backlashes on twitter  asking him to apologise, says  his comment was in response to allegations by Hanna Tetteh’s campaign team labeling irresponsible.

According to him his comment was misunderstood  and that he doesn’t have to apologize.

“If I bring Nana Addo to Bawjiase and I ask you to bring John Mahama to Bawjiase would that be something you should say I should apologize for?,” he quizzed.

Mr. Andah at a mini rally at Bawjiase in the Central Region this week, threw an open challenge to the incumbent member of Parliament Hanna Tetteh,   asking the former Accra Hearts of Oak board member to introduce her husband to the constituents.

“I came here with my wife, and children. Please tell Hanna to also come and show us her husband,” he said.

Some social media commentators have criticized Mr. Andah for the comments, describing it as misogynist and chauvinistic. Others have also urged him to render an apology to the Member of Parliament, and publicly retract it since his comment is considered sexist, and an insult unmarried women seeking leadership particularly in politics.

Marital status of politicians, especially females, is always a major topic  in an election season and that of the former Accra Hearts of Oak board member seems to be in motion now.

But to the NPP  candidate, his comment is not to tell whether the MP is married or not,but rather to prove the constituent of awutu senya that he is not irresponsible as the Hanna Tetteh camp alleges.

“I didn’t say she has a husband or she didn’t have a husband. I showed my wife. There are issues going round that I am irresponsible and all I said was that I come to the constituency with my wife, I come to the constituency with my children,” he said.

“I think the misunderstanding is that, people feel that I said that Hanna Tetteh is not married. I do not know whether Hanna Tetteh is married or not. It is none of my business. All I said is this is my wife, where is your husband?,” he added.
