Hearts of Oak's struggles spark fan frustration after loss to Heart of Lions
17th September 2024
After Hearts of Oak’s 2-0 defeat to Heart of Lions at the Kpando Sports Stadium on Sunday, some fans have begun attributing the team's poor performances to spiritual factors.
Despite strong pre-season preparations, including a training camp in Togo, the Phobians are yet to secure a victory or even score a goal in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.
Their difficult start to the season began with a 1-0 loss to debutants Basake Holy Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium, which was followed by another setback in Kpando.
Frustrated fans reacted angrily after the match, booing the team bus and calling for the dismissal of head coach Aboubakar Ouattara.
Despite growing pressure, the club's management has expressed full support for the coaching staff and players, urging them to turn things around quickly.
However, the team’s woes continued against Heart of Lions, with Hearts conceding a second goal in the final minutes of the game, deepening concerns among fans.
One fan, reflecting on the team's struggles, remarked, "We have the players, but nothing seems to be working. If this continues, we might lose by an even bigger margin next time."
In addition to voicing frustrations about the team’s performance, fans criticized referee Gabriel Opoku Arhin for his handling of the match, particularly concerning the opening goal, and called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to ensure better officiating in the league.
Hearts of Oak will hope to bounce back in their next home game against Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium, where they will seek their first win and goal of the season.
