Leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) and 2024 presidential aspirant, Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has triggered widespread debate after claiming that Heaven and Hell are fabricated concepts used to mislead believers.

Speaking on Adom TV’s The Big Agenda, the Life Assembly Worship Center founder, known privately as Christian Kwabena Andrews, urged Ghanaian pastors to abandon what he described as hollow spiritual doctrines and rather focus on helping citizens improve their lives.

He argued that repeated sermons on Heaven and Hell are a sign of failure within the church.

“Pastors preach Heaven and Hell because they can’t help their members progress. Those teachings are false. We must channel our energy into building this nation instead of promoting fear,” he stated.

He further rejected long-held Christian beliefs, saying he does not accept that Jesus Christ died for him. According to him, such accounts are ancient stories passed down over generations.

Osofo Kyiri Abosom also dismissed the notion of the “Blood of Jesus,” insisting it holds no spiritual power. He criticised the recent National Prayer Day, calling it a ceremonial event with little value for national development.

He stressed that true Christianity is about mindset change and improving living conditions, not relying on supernatural interventions.

While acknowledging the existence of God, he maintained that God has already given people the wisdom needed to solve their own challenges.

“Jesus’ death happened thousands of years ago — I wasn’t there. Life has changed since then. People once survived on grasshoppers, but today we enjoy proper meals,” he said.
