Horror at Asante Mampong cemetery: graves desecrated in suspected ritual act
18th February 2026
Residents of Asante Mampong have been left shaken and terrified after unknown individuals allegedly vandalised several graves at the town’s public cemetery in what is suspected to be a ritual-related act.
Among the affected graves is that of the late queen mother of the local Frafra community, who passed away last year at the age of 85.
Reports indicate that her grave was forcibly opened, her body exhumed, and her head severed and taken away, leaving the headless remains dumped a few metres from the burial site.
The disturbing discovery has sparked anger and deep sorrow within the family and the wider community.
The cemetery’s gravedigger, Kwame Effa, who was among the first to arrive at the scene, said he rushed there after receiving an urgent call.
“When I got there, I saw that the grave had been broken open. The body was out of the coffin and lying a few metres away without the head.
From what I saw, I strongly believe it was done for ritual purposes,” he narrated.
The deceased’s son, Yaw Nsoh, confirmed the incident and expressed outrage over the desecration of his mother’s remains.
He noted that while the coffin and burial items were untouched, his mother’s head had been brutally removed.
“I will not sit and allow anyone to disgrace my mother, even in death. I will pursue this matter legally and spiritually until the people behind it are brought to justice,” he vowed.
Describing the act as shocking and unheard of in the area, the Assembly Member for the Akyeremade Electoral Area, Kwame Nkrumah, said the incident has instilled fear among residents and called for swift action by security agencies.
The incident has renewed calls for increased security at cemeteries and stronger community vigilance, as residents demand answers and justice over what many describe as a horrifying violation of human dignity.
