The Mion Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Alhaji Abudulai Zakaria has been captured in a leaked audio plotting the defeat of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency.

Hon Abdul- Aziz Mohammed who until December 7, 2020, was the incumbent lost to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Abdul Aziz Ayaba with a wide margin in what still remains a mystery to residents of the area.

Whereas the NDC MP polled 14,158 votes, his closest contender in the NPP polled 21,552 votes winning the seat for the first time in the history of the party since 1992.

But the top hierarchy of the NDC in the Northern Region has blamed the constituency chairman for scheming against the party’s candidate for which reason he lost one of the indigenous seats after the emergence of the leaked tape.

Alhaji Abudulai Zakaria is heard in the leaked audio intercepted by MyNewsGh.com discussing how they could use boreholes to be drilled to soar the votes of the then NPP candidate.

According to him, John Mahama was certain to win in the area but the same could not be said about   Hon Abdul- Aziz Mohammed who he believed was going to lose to the NPP candidate he was now in league with.

He has since been suspended by the NDC and referred to the disciplinary committee of the party for further action after a marathon meeting to discuss his fate.

This was after a petition was brought before the party by One Hundred and eleven registered members over his conduct during the 2020 election which according to them was in breach of the party’s disciplinary code.
