How aspiring NPP MP assaulted Peace FM's Micky Darling at Atwea Festival – Report
23rd October 2023
Mr. Alex Owusu Adjei, an aspiring NPP MP for the Asene Akroso Manso Constituency in the Eastern Region, has allegedly assaulted broadcaster Micky Darling of the Despite Media Group.
As to the accounts, the unforeseen incident happened at Akim Akroso as the Atwea Festival was being celebrated.
According to the allegation, while performing his duties as the MC for the grand durbar of the chiefs and people of Akim Akroso, which marked the culmination of the 2023 Atwea Festival celebration, Mr. Owusu Adjei and his goons attacked the well-known radio presenter.
"Micky Darling, who was the main MC for the program, recognized the arrival of the MP, DCE, regional executives, constituency executives, and other party members. After the DCE and the MP of the constituency had spoken, Micky Darling was told to introduce the aspiring parliamentary candidate, Mr. Alex Owusu Adjei, in the middle of the fundraising activity, which, according to supporters of the aspirant, he refused.
"When the aspirant was given the opportunity to say a few words to the gathering, it turned into political campaigns and self-praising of things he had done for widows. At the end of his speech, Micky Darling humbly requested his contributions to the fundraising so that he could announce it for the necessary recognition and acknowledgment.
"This humble request infuriated the aspirant, who had no plans of making a donation, and a few thugs followed him to assault Micky Darling both physically and verbally," the report explained.
It added that "it took the timely intervention of the police and the security officers around to bring the situation under control. This behavior of the aspirants kept the gathering, especially the regional minister and the regional executives, in shock."
According to the report, prominent dignitaries who attended the ceremony, like Hon. George Kwame Aboagye, MP of Asene Akroso, and Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, the Eastern Regional Minister, denounced the attack on the Peace FM host.
The report claims that they were unable to understand how someone who is aspiring to lead the NPP could treat the Regional Minister and the party executives with such disdain, not even making an effort to pay respect and be courteous to the traditional leaders.
