Former Hearts of Oak star Bernard Don Bortey says he has the midas touch to help Asante Kotoko lift the elusive CAF continental trophy.

The porcupine warriors have struggled to win any African continental title of note aside winning the then CAF club cup in 1983.

Since then Kotoko have toiled in vain to win the Champions league nor the Confederations cup.

Don Bortey went close to playing for Kumasi Asante Kotoko on countless occasions even before he joined bitter rivals Hearts and when he was there too but it all proved futile.

The former Ghana youth star is now planning of coaching Asante Kotoko although he is yet to acquire his coaching badges that will make him eligible to train.

"Kotoko CAF Continental trophy droughts can be solved by me if I become coach for Kotoko am ever ready to coach Kotoko and I can win Africa for Kotoko," he told Hot FM.

"Kotoko have a good strong squad for Ghana Premier league but they have to buy players outside Ghana to blend the players for them to able to be successful in Africa." he said.

Kotoko's closest chance of winning a continental trophy in recent times came in 2004 when they reached the final of the inaugural Caf Confederation Cup competition. In the end, their attempt ended in disappointment as they lost to rivals Hearts in an all-Ghana final, interestingly with Bortey on the side of the Phobians.

Two years earlier, the Porcupine Warriors succumbed to Moroccan club Wydad Athletic Club (WAC) Casablanca in the final of the now-defunct Caf Cup Winners' Cup.

In the Champions League, Kotoko have not progressed beyond the group stage of the competition since 2006.

Kotoko will this season play in the CAF Champions League.
