Fiifi Mensah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency Chairman in Bantama, Ashanti Region says he is no longer campaigning against the upcoming referendum; a major campaign promise of his party in the run-up to the 2016 election.

The Electoral Commission has scheduled December 17, 2019, for Ghanaians to decide by a YES or NO vote, the election of MMDCEs.

While members of the NPP are urging and encouraging Ghanaians for a massive 'YES' vote, Fiifi Mensah believes it should be a 'NO' vote to show President Akufo-Addo that they are happy with the Free SHS policy and other initiates of the ruling administration.

“I’m appealing to all the good people of Ghana, especially homes that have benefitted from the Free SHS, Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) and other social interventions instituted by this government to thank the president by voting NO in the upcoming referendum,” he is reported to have said.

Speaking to this on UTV's morning show 'Adekye Nsroma', Tuesday, Henry Kokofu, the Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region said comments made by the constituency Chairman is not that of the ruling party.

"Let me state categorically that this is not the position of the party. We are all behind the actions of the President. We are calling for a YES vote during the upcoming referendum," he indicated.

However, Fiifi Mensah in an interview on the same platform, said he didn't understand the issue when he made those comments and that now 'he knows better' and he's now encouraging people to vote 'YES'.

"My position has changed after being enlightened on the issue . . . my campaign is vote a massive YES," he indicated.
