Former Kotoko player and Aduana Stars striker Yahaya Mohammed has applauded Fabio Gama for bracing the odds to play in Africa and Ghana.

He says more often than not local Ghanaian player are inching to travel to Brazil or abroad to ply their trade but with all the negative talks about Ghana and Africa, Gama decided to come.

The Aduana Stars talisman says he has a lot of respect for the Brazilian midfielder and has urged all and sundry to discard the negative talks about the Brazilian as he could help lure other talents in his homeland to Ghana.

Fabio Gama joined Kumasi Asante Kotoko in October 2020 after signing on a free transfer on a two year deal.

Before even making his debut as a substitute in a game against Medeama, a lot of bad press was made about the player with most doubting why any quality Brazilian player will decide to play in Ghana when there are enormous opportunities in Europe and elsewhere.

Since making his debut, Gama has won the hearts of most football fans with his performance on the pitch.

“I respect him for all the things I’ve been hearing about him. I respect him a lot,” Yahaya told Kumasi based Wontumi TV.

“It’s not easy leaving Brazil and choosing to come play in Africa. Under normal circumstances, we want to go there and he wants to come here. He knows why he’s here.

“For me, we should stop the negative talks about him and encourage him. So we can attract more of his likes to help our league look more attractive and professional.

“Kotoko need to encourage him and make him aware of the kind of club he’s playing for. It’s a big team here in Ghana. If he succeeds and goes back to tell his story, it could lure others to join our local league."

After signing for Kotoko in October, it took the Brazilian two more months to make his debut for the club, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 1-1 draw with Medeama.

Gama, a former Brazil U-17 and U-20 star, has also previously played in Sweden where he was on the books of Varnamo and Jonkopings Sondra.
